Mobilecall – call home cheaper!

 

With the start of the new semester ESN offers you a new service. Using Mobilecall you can phone your loved ones back home from your mobile phone at a sensational rate starting from only 2 cents per minute. In addition you only have to pay a local call in Austria (if you are using klax nonstop by T-Mobile it is a maximum of 10 cents per call – no matter how long it lasts).
Here you can find the current rates (excluding the landline call).

How do I register for this new service?

  1. You follow THIS link and register (site only in German – here you can find the translated terms). IMPORTANT: You have to use this link if you want to register through ESN!
  2. MITACS (the company you sign the contract with) will contact you via phone or mail to inform you that your phone number is registered with them and that you can now use Mobilecall.

What do I need in order to register?

  1. You have to have an address in Austria. This can be your student dorm, your flat… This is where your invoices are going to be sent.
  2. You either need an Austrian bank account or a credit card (they also accept non-Austrian cards – so ask your parents or friends if you don’t have your own). The important thing is to indicate an Austrian address.

I am now registered, what do I do?

Now you can start calling. You either dial 01 22720 and follow the instructions or you save the number you wish to call on your mobile using the pause-function of your phone (0122720 + PAUSE + number you wish to call abroad). In order to do this, follow these instructions

How much do I pay per call?

You have to pay the rate for a local call in Austria (using klax nonstop by t-mobile this is not more than 10 cents per call!)
In addition you pay the rate per minute indicated in the this list. Just to give you an example: You want to use Mobilecall to phone your parents in the US. Speaking with them for one hour costs you only € 1,30 (10 cents for the local call using klax nonstop and 2 cents per minute to the US using Mobilecall)

I am going home. Do I have to terminate the contract?

In theory you would have to, but as you are not paying anything if you are not using Mobilecall any more, it doesn’t really matter. Not using Mobilecall for a few months in a row might lead to a termination of the agreement by the operator anyway. However, you are not obliged to terminate the contract when you leave the country.
